It’s just about time to get those 4th of July decorations out. Last year was the first time I decorated for July 4th. I’m not really sure why. I don’t have an aversion to red, white and blue or anything like that. And really the only thing I made last year was this wreath.
This year, I still haven’t decorated but my friend Tiffany asked me to make her a scrappy garland so that’s what I’m sharing with you today.
Doesn’t it make you just want to stand up and sing our National Anthem? 🙂 Funny story, I Facebook’d Tiffany to make sure she was still wanting this (since she asked me months ago) and her reply, “O my stars and stripes YES!” HA! That gave me a good giggle.
Here’s how you can make your own. Pick our whatever fabrics you want to use. I bought 5 different coordinating fabrics. She didn’t want it too long. So I decided the length should be about 5 inches so I cut one inch wide strips 11 inches long. So basically decide how long you want your strips, double it and add one inch.
Then you want to turn your fabric wrong side up and cross one “tail” over the other. Put your ribbon or rope on top (I do mine upside down for whatever reason but it doesn’t matter which way you turn it, just be consistent), bring the “tails” up (or down in my case) through the hole (make sense?), pull down until it looks like a tie. Then pull tight and move into place. This is really easy to do this while watching your favorite show.
Obviously this isn’t the same fabric but it’s the same process.
And here’s how it ended up. Very patriotic, right?
Originally, I didn’t have the red fabric but it was a little too dark so I added the red after the fact and love that bright pop of color it added.
Thanks for stopping by. Do you decorate for the 4th of July? Send me some of your links!
